Current Conditions

Overnight, the Ranch 2 Fire continued to be quiet, with no increase in acreage.  The containment percentage has risen to 81 percent, and we expect that to increase again today.  All flanks of the fire appear to remain stable, with some crews staying on the mountain overnight so they can seek out any isolated areas of heat.  Yesterday evening the line on the western flank was tied in and will be patrolled and improved today. The north, east and southern portions of the fire are in a patrol and monitoring phase with mop up operations extending 200 feet into the burned area.

The western flank has been extremely challenging to firefighters as they still battle the consistent high temperatures and 35-45% slopes in some areas.  Now that the north and south ends of the fire-line on this side have been tied together, crews will extinguish all hot spots found in drainages and elsewhere. The rest of the fire perimeter remains static, although we continue to patrol these areas and back-haul hose, equipment and trash from the area.  Air operations will transport personnel to key areas and continue to support their operations through resupply, personnel shuttling, and air drops.

The incident commanders are pleased that there have been no injuries to civilians and thankful that there have been no major injuries to firefighters.  With the excessive heat over the last eleven days, there have been eight cases of heat related injuries and approximately fifty cases of poison oak affecting the firefighters.
