BIA Wildland Fire and Aviation Management Type 3 Organization Secures Wood Springs 2 Fire
A local Type 3 Organization, assigned by BIA Wildland Fire and Aviation Management, continued to monitor and secure the Wood Springs 2 Fire on Sunday. Under an assigned incident commander, personnel monitored and secured the outer perimeter of the fire and checked for any heat or burning. All area closures and road closures remain in effect at this time.
At almost full containment on Sunday, the fire burned about five miles west of Sawmill, Arizona on June 27 as a result of lightning. The fire eventually grew to 12,861 acres. Crews worked to protect power lines east of the fire and stop the fire from jumping Route 7. With cooperation from state, local, and tribal agencies, crews and equipment engaged the fire with road and area closures ensured by the Navajo Nation Office of the President and Vice President.
