 Central Fire - June 24, 2020 Morning Update

Acres: 4,499 acres                                                                                     Percent Containment: 36%
Start Date: Saturday, June 20, 2020                                                      Cause: Human-caused
Origin Location: East of New River, AZ                                                 Fuels: Tall grass and brush
Resources: 184 total including 3 Type 1 crews; 4 Type 2 crews; 4 engines, 1 dozer

Central Fire Now 36% Contained

The Central Fire is 36% contained. Firefighters continue full suppression efforts. Minimal fire activity is expected today, primarily within the fire’s perimeter. Firefighters continue to ensure the fire’s perimeter remains secure and monitor and patrol the area. Ground and aerial resources will take suppression actions as needed.

Access to the Central Fire is challenging. Crews are being transported by utility vehicles (UTV) and shuttled via helicopters in order to safely and effectively access the fire for suppression efforts.  

Hot, dry weather is expected to continue throughout the area.
Southwest winds are expected to pick up in the late afternoon up to 25 mph.

he Tonto National Forest has an area closure surrounding the Central Fire. Fire restrictions remain in place. Details  are available at https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/tonto/alerts-notices.

Wildfires are a No Drone Zone. If you fly, we can’t. Every time a drone is spotted near the fire all aircraft are grounded until we can be sure the drone is clear of this area. More info visit http://knowbeforeyoufly.org.
