East Canyon Fire – June 28, 2020 AM Update

The Type 3 Incident Command will be transitioning the East Canyon fire to the local Fort Lewis Mesa Fire Protection District Monday afternoon. John Lee, the Fort Lewis Mesa Fire Rescue Chief stated, “daily patrols will occur in the mornings and afternoons for about a week, and possible longer if conditions warrant.” “These patrols will primarily be by vehicle, but some foot patrol will be done in remote portions of the fire.” The interior portions of the East Canyon fire will continue to have visible smoke for weeks from smoldering stumps and small pockets of burning vegetation well within the fire perimeter. The perimeter of the fire is secure, but the interior areas will take longer to burn out and cool off.

The East Canyon fire resources from the Type 3 organization will continue to strengthen the fire perimeter by patrolling and extinguishing any heat near the fires edge today.
