Lightning Ignites New Start North of Mangum Fire
A dry lightning storm was observed several miles north of the Magnum fire perimeter Friday afternoon, sparking an ignition that was detected Friday night. Several crews and aircraft responded and were working to suppress the fire late into the afternoon. It is located across the Utah border on BLM land and named the Wire Pass fire. For Wire Pass fire information call: (435) 644-1209. On the Mangum fire, crews continued work to improve fire lines and conduct suppression repair where needed.
Today firefighters will continue conducting suppression repair. The weather forecast is for changing conditions with another wind event today and tomorrow. Crews are positioned to respond to expected red flag conditions and high winds today and Monday in case of increased fire activity on the Mangum fire. The pre-evacuation threat for the White Sage subdivision and Johnson and Mackelprang ranches west of the fire have been rescinded. Two residences along House Rock road have had their “Go” evacuation status reduced to “Ready” effective this morning.
