Difficult Terrain Challenges Mangum Firefighters Wednesday’s fireline work focused increased effort on the NE section of the fire north of Highway 89A where the fire is still most active. Additional crews were added to bolster resources working in this difficult terrain. The remainder of the perimeter continued to see crews doing suppression repair, extinguishing hot spots near the perimeter, and monitoring for spot fires potentially spread by afternoon breezes. The weather forecast for today continues hot and dry with breezy afternoons.

Firefighters will focus on continued suppression tactics, aided by aircraft and dozer support. Other sections of the fire will be patrolled and mopped up with suppression repair occurring on the remainder of the 368 miles of the perimeter.Closures:Highway 89A is closed from Mile Post 545 near the Cliff Dwellings to Fredonia.
