Bighorn Fire - July 17, 2020 Daily Update

Highlights: Light rain that occurred on the evening of July 15 resulted in debris flow in the Canada Del Oro Wash. It is imperative that the general public adhere to the closure for public health and safety.  There will be a robust law enforcement presence at trailheads and roads along the closure boundary.  Violation of the closure order number: # 03-05-05-20-024 is being enforced and could result in a fine in accordance with U.S.C. § 551, 18 U.S.C. § 3571(b)(6), 18 U.S.C. § 3581 (b)(7).  The closure order can be found at fs.usda.gov/alerts/coronado/alerts-notices.  Recreational residence cabin owners on the Santa Catalina Ranger District need to vacate the area today. Access to recreational residences will be reevaluated weekly. This is the final update unless significant events occur. Weather: Today’s temperatures in the valley will reach 101 degrees with northwest winds in the afternoon up to 10 mph. Minimum humidity levels will be around 35% in higher elevations and 19% across the lower elevations. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are predicted over the fire this afternoon. Yesterday’s Activity: Suppression repair efforts continued with chipping, backhaul, and suppression rehabilitation. Today’s Activity:  Smoke will remain visible within the wilderness area until there is significant rainfall. Firefighters continue to assess the area and use suppression tactics commensurate with the values at risk. County Emergency Alerts: For Pima County, visit myalerts.pima.gov.
