Upper Tract, W.Va., November 30, 2019, 10 a.m. – The 720-acre Dry Hollow Fire in Pendleton County near Upper Tract is 60 percent contained, although it continues to grow along the western perimeter. More than 50 firefighters are continuing to work the fire. Heavy smoke has affected Upper Tract and Franklin. Residents with respiratory illnesses can reduce their exposure to smoke by staying indoors. If you encounter smoke on the highway, slow down, turn on your vehicle’s lights, and drive appropriately for the conditions.
The Forest Service is working closely with the Upper Tract Volunteer Fire Department and the West Virginia Division of Forestry as they assess concerns for private property. A major front is expected to move through the area, bringing cooler temperatures and the potential for precipitation. If the area gets significant precipitation, resources will be released to the minimum number of firefighters needed to monitor the fire.
