Update on the Dry Hollow Fire on Monongahela National Forest

Dry Hollow Fire Wildfire
News – 11/29/2019

Upper Tract, W.Va., November 29, 2019 – Today more than 50 firefighters and four engines continued to work on the Dry Hollow Fire in Pendleton County near Upper Tract. The fire has caused extremely smoky conditions in the area of Upper Tract and Franklin. Residents with respiratory illnesses can reduce their exposure to smoke by staying indoors. If you encounter smoke on the highway, slow down, turn on your vehicle’s lights, and drive appropriately for the conditions.

The fire is 60 percent contained, although it continues to grow along the western perimeter and is now at 720 acres, after the addition of new and updated mapping.

The Forest Service continues to support the Upper Tract Volunteer Fire Department and the West Virginia Division of Forestry as they assess concerns for private property in the area.

A major front is moving through the area over the next three days, bringing cooler temperatures and the potential for precipitation. If the area gets significant precipitation, resources will be released to the minimum number of firefighters needed to monitor the fire.
