News – 11/24/2019

Summary: Today, the current incident commander (IC), Richard “Quintan” Garcia is transferring command of the fire back to local fire officials with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Southern California Agency (BIA). Two Chumash Fire Department engines assigned to the fire are demobilized and traveling back to their home unit today. The sprinkler system will continue to run throughout the day and one engine will patrol the area for smokes and ensure the sprinklers are running smoothly.

Tomorrow, Monday November 25th will be the last day that a daily update is produced for the Martinez 3 Fire. The information officers assigned to the fire that produce the daily update will be demobilizing and travel home on the 26th. Updates will be produced again if any significant events occur.

The Sun Valley Recycling Center is no longer operating at the incident site off 66th Avenue. Any dumping of materials at the site is illegal. Please report all illegal dumping seen in the valley to the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians at 760-541-5215, or submit a report at ivan-imperial.org.

The Martinez 3 Fire is suspected to be an arson caused fire. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any arsonist connected to the Martinez 3 Fire or any other fires in the area. Please call WeTip at 1-800-472-7766 to make an anonymous report.

Additional signs will be posted over the next week near areas of concern to help deter illegal dumping, trespassing and arson. Please help to stop the ongoing problems and report anything suspicious.

Smoke Conditions: The South Coast Air Quality Management District continues to monitor the air near the incident. No advisories are currently in effect. Advisories will be updated as needed.

Weather: Sunny skies are forecasted with a high of 76 and lows around 51. Winds will be calm from the south around 5 mph throughout the day, changing to the north this evening.
