News – 11/23/2019

Summary: Fire officials with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Southern California Agency (BIA) are keeping three engines assigned to the incident through the weekend. Firefighters assigned to the engines will continue patrolling the fire area and closely monitor the mulch for any remaining pockets of heat and smoke that may exist below the upper layers. The sprinkler system currently in place over the entire 52-acres will continue to operate during daylight hours. 

The Sun Valley Recycling Center is no longer operating at the incident site off 66th Avenue. Any dumping of materials at the site is illegal. Please report all illegal dumping seen in the valley to the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians at 760-541-5215, or submit a report at ivan-imperial.org.  

The Martinez 3 Fire is suspected to be an arson caused fire. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any arsonist connected to the Martinez 3 Fire or any other fires in the area. Please call WeTip at 1-800-472-7766 to make an anonymous report.

Additional signs will be posted over the next week near areas of concern to help deter illegal dumping, trespassing and arson. Please help to stop the ongoing problems and report anything suspicious. 

Smoke Conditions: The South Coast Air Quality Management District continues to monitor the air near the incident. No advisories are currently in effect. Advisories will be updated as needed. Updates can be found at: www.aqmd.gov/advisory.

Weather:  Mostly sunny skies with a high near 75 and lows around 51. Winds will be calm from the northwest around 5 mph throughout the day, changing to the north this evening.
