Last night’s Infa-red flight resulted in more accurate mapping. Total acreage for the Fish Hawk Fire now stands at 11,171 acres.
Chipping operations at the boy scout camp and Kitty Creek community will finish by mid-day. Firefighters are reducing fuels by cleaning up slash piles around structures. Hose lay kits consisting of hose, nozzles and sprinklers will be left at the Wapiti Ranger District fire cache for future use.
Significant precipitation is forecasted for today, coming in three waves of storms. The first showers arriving around 10:00 am this morning. Strong winds and thunderstorms will accompany the second batch of moisture between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm with more rain arriving around 9:00 pm. Traditionally, the month of September this area receives approximately one inch of precipitation. Storms thru the coming week may bring 2½ inches of rain.
Rocky Mountain Incident Management Blue Team will transition command back to the Wapiti Ranger District tomorrow at 6:00 pm. Crews are finishing up fire operations work and decreasing crew activity by tomorrow.
US Highway 14/16/20 (North Fork Highway) will still see fire traffic today and due to expected weather conditions please be aware and drive safely in the area. The highway is open from Cody to Yellowstone National Park.
The Stink Water Fire remains at 47 acres and is 68% contained.
