Vader Fire Update July 25, 2019

Vader Fire Wildfire
News – 7/25/2019

FIRE UPDATE: Yesterday, firefighters made significant progress, increasing containment from 32% to 76%. The Vader Fire is now 443 acres; the acreage increase is due to more accurate mapping. With the good progress, some crews are being released to other, more recent fires in the Great Basin. The four crews, two engines, and one excavator remaining on the Vader Fire will continue securing and patrolling fire lines and begin repairing dozer and hand lines. State Highway 21 is open through the Cape Horn area without any restrictions. Motorists should keep an eye out for fire traffic and travel with caution near the fire area.

AREA CLOSURE: An area closure remains in effect in the fire area; Thatcher Creek Campground and Vader Creek Day-Use Area are closed, but Trap Creek Campground remains open.

WEATHER: Warm, mostly sunny weather is expected with a high near 85 and generally mild west to northwest winds. Mostly cloudy weather with isolated showers and thunderstorms are anticipated for Friday.

FIRE SAFETY: There are no fire restrictions at this time, but fires can start quickly and burn in vegetation that seems green. Taking individual responsibility to reduce the chance of wildfire can help keep the public, firefighters, and property safe. Remember, one spark is all it takes to start a wildfire.
