Temporary Special Closure Order
Emergency Area Closure due to Wildfire
Pursuant to Title 36 Code of Federal Regulations 261.50 (a) and (b ), the following restrictions are in effect on the Chugach National Forest as described below. These restrictions are in addition to those enumerated in Subpart A, Part 261, Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations. This order will be in effect from August 28, 2019 and will be terminated when fire danger conditions allow.
36 CFR 261.53 (e)- Special Closure
Pursuant to Title 36 Code of Federal Regulations 261.53 (e), due to the concern for public health and safety, it is prohibited to go into or be upon the areas of National Forest System (NFS) lands described as:
All NFS lands and facilities south of American Creek to its intersection with Resurrection Pass Trail. All NFS lands west of Resurrection Pass Trail to Devils Creek Trail. All NFS lands southwest of the Devils Creek Trail to Quartz Creek. All NFS lands west of Quartz Creek and north of the Sterling Highway to the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge/National Forest boundary. All NFS lands east of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge/National Forest boundary to American Creek.
This special closure is in effect for the Seward Ranger District of the Chugach National Forest area as described and additionally displayed on Exhibit A.
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.S0(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
I. Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
2. Any Federal, State or Local Law Enforcement Officer or member of an organized rescue
or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
