Woodbury Fire Lines Continue to Hold
The west side of the fire northeast of Apache Junction continues to show no growth and lines are holding. Crews along the northern edge of the fire below Apache Lake are solidifying the fireline. Low intensity fire was introduced to the area along Davis Wash to protect the State Highway 88 corridor and infrastructure. Additional low intensity fire was used north of Tonto National Monument towards State Highway 88. Fire grew slightly to the east to Nonesuch Rock and was hit heavily with helicopter water drops. Hotshot crews were sent to the Rock Spring Barn Corral area to build direct fireline due to favorable terrain with support from helicopters.
Due to more favorable weather and fire reaching a different vegetation type, minimal fire growth is expected. Interior pockets of pinyon pine and juniper trees are expected to burn and create smoke columns inside of the fire perimeter.
Crews will actively check the fireline along the State Highway 88 corridor and power line infrastructure to keep the fire south. Personnel will continue to secure the edge along the Highway 188 corridor where firing operations occurred the night of June 21. Additional structure protection will be conducted around Roosevelt Estates and other infrastructure.
Crews will actively monitor and reinforce the eastern edge of the fire, and complete mine infrastructure protection. Structure protection efforts around the Top of the World community will continue today. If conditions are favorable, firing operations along with retardant drops will occur along Sawtooth Ridge to limit any further fire growth to the south. Personnel on the west side of the fire remain available for initial attack should a new fire ignite in the region. Suppression repair and hand line clean-up has begun in this area. Night operations will include roving patrols this evening to ensure lines are holding.
