  • Approximately 8 miles east of Cave Creek Ranger Station

  • Nearest town is Cave Creek, Arizona

    Start Date: Friday, June 7, 2019
    Size: approximately 7,470 acres
    Percent Contained: 50%

    Personnel: 243

    Cause: Human caused, under investigation

    Summary: Firefighters continue to make good progress on the Mountain Fire. Their efforts remained focused on building and enhancing containment features and mopping-up interior heat. Little smoke is visible. Smoke earlier this morning was associated with the Coldwater Fire near Payson, AZ. on the Coconino National Forest.

    The Bartlett Dam Road remains closed at the intersection with Cave Creek Road. This closure will be re-evaluated daily.

    All day-use areas and campgrounds near Horseshoe and Bartlett lakes have been closed to allow firefighters to concentrate on containing the fire.

    Background: The Mountain Fire was reported just before noon on Friday, June 7, 2019. The fire is completely on the Tonto National Forest, burning east and northeast toward Horseshoe and Bartlett Lake.
