Location:

  • Approximately 8 miles east of Cave Creek

    Cause:
    Human caused


    Summary:
    The Mountain Fire was reported just before noon on Friday, June 7, 2019. There are currently 8 Engines and 3 crews fighting the fire, along with air tankers and a helicopters dipping water out of Bartlett Lake. Additional resources have been ordered. The fire is completely on the Tonto National Forest, burning east and northeast toward Bartlett Lake. The Bartlett Dam Road has been closed at the intersection with Cave Creek Road.

    All day-use areas and campgrounds near Horseshoe and Bartlett lakes have been closed to allow firefighters to concentrate on containing the fire. Individuals who are currently in the area are being allowed to leave and are being escorted back to Cave Creek Road.

    As the winds die down this evening, smoke will settle into to valleys and people living near the Tonto National Forest may smell smoke. This is normal overnight airflow and not a cause for concern
