News – 3/26/2019

WHO: San Jacinto Ranger District, San Bernardino National Forest, U.S. Forest Service

WHAT: After a successful test burn of 10 acres on Monday, March 25, crews plan to continue work on the 1,074-acre burn unit if weather conditions remain safe for operations. Hand crews and a helicopter will be used to implement the broadcast burn, which aims to create a mosaic of age diversity among the vegetation by treating 30 to 70 percent of the unit.

Crews will only move forward each day when weather conditions are safe for burning. Personnel will remain on site 24 hours/day during Forest, U.S. Forest Service.

WHERE: Thomas Mountain (Garner Valley side)

WHEN: First day of full implementation is scheduled to begin Tues., March 26, with crews scheduled to continue work throughout the week. The full project may take place periodically over the next month.
