Nevada Type III Management Team Four took command of the Range 2 Fire at 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1. The team went to work immediately assessing the fire and assigning personnel to several divisions to relieved crews that arrived on the first day.
Local, state, county, and federal fire crew saw minimal fire activity and very little growth today. Aircraft continue to hit the Range 2 Fire with retardant and water.
The team performed an initial assessment of Lamoille Canyon and found no damage from the Nature Trail to Roads End. The Powerhouse Group Picnic Area, Thomas Canyon Campground and Terraces Campground and Picnic Area have been minimally impacted by the fire. The U.S. Forest Service is still assessing the Lamoille Organization Camp and recreational residences.
The Lamoile Canyon including all areas, roads and trails are closed until further notice and barricades are being manned by Elko County Sheriff’s Department and Forest Service. For more details on this closure, visit: https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/htnf/alerts-notices/?aid=49687.
Motorists are also asked to be vigilant as firefighter vehicles and equipment travel down roadways. When encountering fire traffic please slow down, be patient, and drive safely.
The National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting for rain starting tomorrow with expected totals of one half inch to three quarters of an inch with localized amounts around two inches in higher elevations. NWS warns that flash flooding and burn scare debris flows could occur in the fire area.
