Local, state, county, and federal fire crews saw minimal fire activity and very little growth yesterday. The fire laid down last night due to the lower overnight temperatures and higher relative humidity recovery.
Today, firefighters could again see active fire behavior and crews will continue to build hand lines. Aircraft will be used in areas that are inaccessible to fire crews.
The National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting rain starting today with expected totals of one half inch to three quarters of an inch with localized amounts around two inches in higher elevations. Predicted rains in the area could affect the fire area with flash flooding and rock and mud slides.
The Lamoile Canyon including all areas, roads and trails are closed until further notice and barricades are being manned by Elko County Sheriff’s Department and Forest Service. For more details on this closure, visit: https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/htnf/alerts-notices/?aid=49687.
Motorists are asked to be vigilant as firefighter vehicles and equipment travel down roadways. When encountering fire traffic please slow down, be patient, and drive safely. Please do not try to go into Lamoille Canyon.
