Las Vegas, NV., Sept. 30, 2018 – The Range Two Fire that started near Spring Creek, Nevada, has caused the mandatory evacuation of the Lamoille Canyon area. This fire started around 9 a.m. today on private land and moved onto the Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
Heavy winds are fueling the Range Two Fire, which is burning west to east along the edge of the Ruby Mountains. It is currently burning across the entrance of the Lamoille Canyon near the Powerhouse Group Picnic Area. Firefighters are seeing 100 foot flames as the fire burns through grass, brush, pinyon and juniper.
Local, state, county, and federal agencies are fighting the fire with ground and air resources. Structure protection is in place for the homes along the base of the Ruby Mountains in the Lamoille community. Aircrafts are dropping retardant between the fire and structures. A Type III Management Team will take over the fire at 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
