Bald Mountain firefighters received a box with hundreds of "Thank You" cards from the Salem Hills, Mt Loafer and Amelia Earhart Schools. The notes were handed out to the firefighters to show the community's gratitude for their efforts. Some have been posted on our Facebook page.
We appreciate the generosity of those who have expressed interest in donating to the firefighting effort. However, firefighters have all their needs fully met at fire camp. Firefighters pack to be on assignment for 14 days. This includes work clothes, personal clothes, toiletries, camping equipment, and other comfort items. They are provided with food, water, snacks, sports drinks, ice, and a multitude of other supplies. There is a caterer on site who provides over 7,000 calories a day through hot breakfast, bag lunch, and hot dinner. We even have a laundry service that can wash their clothes.
If you would like to do something for the firefighters, what means most are the thank you's, both signs around the community and personal notes. Firefighters also appreciate pre-stamped post cards to send home to their loved ones. If you have supplies to donate, many of the local Volunteer Fire Departments (VFD) who did initial attack have been supporting the Bald Mountain Fire. These organizations always welcome donations of goods to their facilities. Another way to donate is to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. https://wffoundation.org/
Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness!
