Watson Creek Daily Update 9/5/2018

Watson Creek Fire Wildfire
News – 9/5/2018

There will be a community meeting at 7 p.m. tonight at the Paisley Community Center to update the public on the Watson Creek Fire. The most current information available will be shared, as well as next steps, followed by questions and answers.

South Central Oregon Interagency Fire Incident Management Team 3, Fremont-Winema National Forest staff, and Oregon Department of Forestry are working closely with ranchers and loggers to provide necessary access when and where it is safe to do so throughout the fire zone.

The Team is also continuing with mop-up and rehabilitation along the fire boundary and within the interior, including clearing down trees and snags along roadways, ensuring hot spots are not flaring up within 100 feet of the fire boundary, clearing blocked culverts, and repairing roads.

Lakeview Estates remains in a Level 1 Be Ready evacuation status. The team is in communication with the Lake County Sheriff regarding when it will be safe to lift that notification.

Among the successes of fire suppression and protection efforts were the preservation of Bald Butte Lookout, Withers Cabin and the Ingram Guard Station.

Near-critical fire weather is expected today with high temperatures, very low humidity, and gusty winds. This may increase visible smokes and fire behavior, which is still actively torching some trees on the southeastern portion of the fire.

While hunting and target shooting are allowed on public lands, recreationists should keep in mind that any ammunition that strikes a rock or metal can spark a fire in these extreme conditions. Please use care when engaging in these activities.
