ALTURAS, Calif.— August 28, 2018, 7:00 a.m.
The Stone Fire remains at 39,387 acres and is 95% contained. 696 resources are assigned to the fire, including three helicopters.
Residents and motorists can expect to see smoke and isolated flames as unburned islands of vegetation inside containment lines continue to ignite and burn. Personnel will continue to patrol the fire perimeter to ensure that lines remain secure.
Priorities today will be to continue mop up, and to backhaul any excess hose and equipment that remains on the fireline. Firefighters are working with local Resource Advisors to continue suppression repair; including constructing waterbars and pulling in berms to prevent erosion, and repairing any infrastructure that was damaged during suppression. They may cover lines that were opened to prevent erosion and unwanted access, or may leave them open as a fuel break for the future.
Weather today is predicted to be slightly warmer than yesterday, with light and variable winds.
