AREA CLOSURE ORDER
Whale Butte and Coal Ridge Fire Area Closure

Pursuant to Title 36 Code of Federal Regulation 261.50 (b), the following restriction is in effect on the Glacier View Ranger District on the Flathead National Forest, Flathead County, Montana as depicted on the attached map as Exhibit A, and herby incorporated into the order. This temporary restriction is in addition to those enumerated in Subpart A, Part 261, Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations, and becomes effective when signed and will remain in effect until rescinded.

36 CFR 261.53e - Special Closures:

It is prohibited to go into or be upon the area [Title 36 CFR 261.53(e)]

The closure cited in this order is to protect the public from potential harm from wildfires and firefighting operations associated with the existing and potential fire hazards.

Description Closed Areas:

There are 2 distinct areas where this closure order applies to the Flathead National Forest; To the north is the Whale Butte Area and to the south is the Coal Ridge Area. These two areas close the following:

Whale Butte Area:

All lands contained within the perimeter that is made from the West end of FS Road 318 (the Whale Creek Road), the 9805 Rd (Hornet Lookout Rd, include the Hornet Lookout), 100 feet West of, and along, the North Fork Rd (Flathead County Rd 486), and 100 feet south of, and along the Moose Cr Road (FS Rd 210C).

This closure does not include Flathead County Road 486

Coal Ridge Area:

All lands contained within the perimeter that is made by the Whitefish Divide, the ridge between Red Meadow Cr and Hay Cr, the junction of FS Rd 1154 and FS Rd 909, 100 feet west of FS Rd 909, and along the ridge between Hay Creek and Coal Creek.

This closure does not include FS Road 115 (Red Meadow Road), FS Rd 909 (Cyclone Lookout Rd), and FS Road 317 and 317 B (Coal Cr Roads).

Both Whale Butte Area & Coal Ridge Area are displayed on attached map, see Exhibit A.

Exemptions:

Pursuant to Title 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following are exempt from this restriction:

l. Persons with a permit issued by a forest officer specifica lly authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.

2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.

Penalty:

Violation of these prohibitions is puni s hable b y a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both (16 USC 551 and 18 USC 3559 and 3571).

Notification:

A copy of this order shall be posted as prescribed under 36 CFR 261.51.

Rescind Forest Supervisor's Order

The area closure associated with the Whale Butte Fire (order# DO7-108-S-18), signed on the 13th day of August 2018, and all roads and trails within that area closure , is hereby rescinded.

The area closure associated with the Coal Ridge Fire (order# DO7-l08-S-18), signed on the 13th day of August 2018, and all the roads and trails within that area closure, is hereby rescinded.
