Current Status: The Rampike Fire was detected on 7/31/2018 on the Coeur d’Alene River Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. Caused by a lightning strike, the Rampike Fire is burning 1.5 miles east of Shoshone Creek and on a ridge between Clinton Creek and Cabin Creek. On Tuesday, August 14, the Rampike Fire crossed the state line at Bottle Point onto the Kootenai National Forest, Cabinet Ranger District. Crews on the Kootenai National Forest wrapped two structures, the Gem Peak Lookout and the Gem saddle warming hut, and used heavy equipment to open access roads and create fuel breaks. Dozer line has been completed from Ulm Peak to Rd 412 on Shoshone Creek. The fire has seen some growth this week, expanding by approximately 300 acres on the Kootenai National Forest. Although fire activity is minimal at this time, the Rampike Fire is being managed under a full suppression management objective with a confine and contain strategy. This will be the last update unless conditions or closures change.
Planned Actions: Heavy equipment has been demobilized at this time as access routes were successfully completed. Personnel will monitor fire behavior at management action points. Fire management officials will be watchful for changing conditions that may necessitate additional suppression actions. Suppression repair activities will commence with favorable conditions.
Evacuations: There are NO evacuations currently in place. However, when living in fire prone areas it is recommended that all area residents have an evacuation plan in place including having all important documents, pictures, prescriptions and pets gathered up and easily transportable. Visit Sanders County’s website at http://co.sanders.mt.us/ for information about evacuations.
Forest Area Closure and Fire Restrictions: The Kootenai and Idaho Panhandle National Forests have placed an Area Closure on roads and trails in the Rampike Fire area. Updated Area Closure Orders took effect on Friday, September 14, 2018 on the Kootenai and Idaho Panhandle National Forests. The new closure area is substantially contracted and allows for public safety and continued operations. The latest Closure Orders and Maps can be found on https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/6126/. Both National Forests have rescinded fire restrictions. While the cooler temperatures and precipitation no longer warrant extreme fire danger, the public is urged to continue to be careful with fire. Contact your local Ranger District for more information.
