Announcements – 7/30/2018

Fire Situation: The fire is burning on Whaleback Mountain, west of Eagle Lake, in the Brockman Flat Lava Beds. Fire suppression activities are being directed by Northern California Interagency Incident Management Team 1, under a unified command between the Lassen National Forest and the CALFIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit.

Fire Start: Friday, July 27, 1:30 pm. Cause is still under investigation.

Fire Size: Approximately 14,098 acres with 20% containment.

Location: West side of Eagle Lake about 20 miles northwest of Susanville, California.

Road Closures: Portions of County Roads A-1, 21 and 231 are closed in the vicinity of the fire.

Evacuations and Closures: Spalding Tract is evacuated. Christie Campground and day use area, Merrill Campground, West Eagle Campground, Eagle Campground, Aspen Grove Campground, Gallatin Marina and Beach and Camp Ronald McDonald are closed to public use. Lake users should be aware that there are helicopters dipping water out of Eagle Lake.

Resources Assigned:448 total personnel, including10 twenty-person hand crews; 5 helicopters; 36 engines; 4 bulldozers.
