State Routes 74 and 243 Status for "Jazz in the Pines" Jazz Festival

Cranston Fire Wildfire
Announcements – 8/9/2018

State Routes 74 and 243 Status for the

Idyllwild “Jazz in the Pines” Jazz Festival

RIVERSIDE – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is alerting motorists to use State

Route 243 (SR 243) who wish to attend the “Jazz in the Pines” Jazz Festival in Idyllwild this weekend.

Caltrans is continuing work with pilot vehicle escort through the weekend to make repairs to guardrail

and signs on State Route 74 (SR 74) for the start of school on Monday, August 13, for students who

attend school in Hemet and other regions. Work is also continuing to restore culverts, berms and

drainage areas for future storm events.

Motorists are strongly advised to use SR 243 from Interstate 10 (I-10) in Banning to attend the

festival. SR 243 is fully open with no restrictions.

SR 74 will continue to have pilot vehicle escorts through the weekend to complete repairs before

it can be fully open to traffic without escorts. The delay time for the escort process is estimated

between 30 and 60 minutes depending on traffic volumes. To avoid delays – use SR 243 from

Banning!

If you choose to use the SR 74 pilot vehicle escort please read the following:

The speed limit during the escort is approximately 25 miles.

Pay attention and keep your eyes on the road. Do not distract yourself while driving by

looking at the burn area or fire damage.

Follow all instructions from work crews and law enforcement.

Flagging will also take place on other sections of SR 74 while going through the pilot

vehicle escort.

BE ADVISED THAT SR 74 CAN CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE DUE TO FLASH FLOODING OR

OTHER UNFORESEEN EVENTS.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be on scene to assist with traffic control and enforcement.

Have patience, bring water, snacks and a charged cell phone. Motorists are advised to follow all

commands and instructions from law enforcement and the work crews. Check for weather conditions

before you travel. Enjoy the Jazz in the Pines!
