Klondike Fire Information

After a very long fire season, the management of the Klondike Fire is being returned to a local Type 4 management organization Monday morning. Patrols will be ongoing in the Agness area. Repairs and patrols will be ongoing from the Cave Junction.
The Evacuation Level 1 (READY) will remain in place for all residences in the area of Oak Flat Road, Old House Creek Road and all residents on the north and south sides of the Agness Road (3300) from the Illinois River Bridge to Coon Rock Bridge. The need for this level will be evaluated frequently and reduced as appropriate. For evacuation updates, check the Curry County Sherriff’s Office Facebook page. This will be the last update on the Klondike Fire from Northwest Incident Management Team 8, Doug Johnson, Incident Commander and for the incident unless there is significant activity. The G-mail, Facebook and Inciweb pages for this incident will be suspended today. Firefighters worked today to check heat signatures identified by an earlier infra-red flight. No issues of concern were found in these locations. Restoration of the pastures near the Agness Work Center is underway. Fence repairs have been completed. Crews and heavy equipment have made significant progress in suppression repair work. Resource advisors are guiding all repairs. Crews are clearing ditches of Forest Road (FR) 2308 of woody debris and piling the debris for later disposal. Grading and backhoe work is expected to be completed by the end of the day. An additional local crew will assist with the covering of debris piles created during hazard tree removal on FR 4105. Road repair work is on-going along FR 2509. Work on FR 4105 has been completed. Fire Weather/Fire Behavior: Today will be warmer and much drier. Temperatures are forecasted between 50 – 65 degrees with relative humidity of 25 – 35%. Winds will be northwest 0 – 2 mph. No fire growth is expected today. Heavy fuels and stumps will continue to burn. Smokes will be visible while traveling near or in the fire area until significant precipitation is received. Closures: The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest Area Closure over the Klondike Fire remains in effect for public safety. The Bureau of Land Management rescinded all emergency closures of public lands in Josephine County related to the Klondike and Taylor Fires. All BLM managed lands previously closed by the Klondike and Taylor Creek Fires are open. Cutting of firewood is prohibited on any decked logs in the fire area on National Forest System lands. The log decks will be utilized as decided by Forest Service district management.
