10/26/2018 Klondike Fire Update

Klondike Fire Wildfire
News – 10/26/2018

Klondike Fire West Zone – There was minimal fire activity again yesterday. All the spot fires are contained and in patrol status. Suppression repair was completed on the spot fire across the Illinois River on Spud road. Firefighters continue to find and extinguish hot spots where fire is burning in heavy fuels or has burned into a ‘stump hole’. Crews have started backhauling equipment and hose from portions of fireline that are fully secure.

Today, crews will continue mopping up hot spots within 200’ of containment lines today. Fire managers are evaluating suppression repair needs that can be completed without interfering with the ongoing suppression efforts.

Resources have started to be released from the incident due to the increase in containment. An objective of incident management is to fit the size of the organization to the need of the fire. Personnel expand and contract in concert with the complexity of the fire.

Fire Weather/Fire Behavior: Today’s forecast calls for light rain or drizzle throughout the day as a weak cold front moves into SW Oregon. Abundant moisture and low clouds will likely lead to areas of dense fog today through Saturday morning. On Saturday high pressure will result in some warming and drying but give way to light rain or drizzle as early as Saturday evening and S-SE winds as high as 45mph on upper slope. Fire spread is expected to be minimal.

Evacuations: A Level 2 (BE SET) is in place for all residences in the area of Oak Flat Road, Old House Creek Road and all residents on the north and south side of the Agness Road (3300) from the Illinois River Bridge to Coon Rock Bridge.

Klondike East Zone – Thursday firefighters cleared debris and trees to protect the outlet at Spalding Pond. Dozer fireline repair is complete on the zone. Debris piling continues along the 4105 (Six Mile) road. The 2509 road will require a few more days of work to complete danger tree removal and grading. All danger trees will be decked by Saturday evening.
