Smoke Report for Taylor Cr/Klondike Fires 9/17/2018

Klondike Fire Wildfire
Announcements – 9/17/2018

The Klondike Fire is 72% contained. There was no infrared (IR) flight yesterday to observe fire growth, therefore there are no updates to total acreage. Minimal fire spread is expected today due to residual fuel moisture from yesterday's wet weather. Some creeping and smoldering is expected around Indigo Creek, Horse Sign Drainage, and within the fire interior.

Smoke Today

The rains brought good air quality throughout the area yesterday. A light increase in smoke production can be expected today. Winds will be from the NE in the morning, shifting to NW winds in the afternoon. Areas to the southwest can expect light to moderate smoke in the morning and again overnight when winds shift back the the NE. Areas to the south of fire activity may experience light to moderate smoke impacts throughout the day. Areas to the east may experience moderate to light smoke in the early afternoon. Ashland/Medford may experience light smoke from fires in Northern CA in the early afternoon.

Smoke Tomorrow

Expect similar wind and smoke movement patterns over the next couple days. Winds from the NE will have a drying effect on fuels, leading to a potential for increased smoke production as fuels dry out.
