The Klondike Fire added about 450 acres of growth yesterday for a total of 134,695 acres. Cool moist air with chances of scattered showers should continue to put a damper on active fire behavior today. Fuels will continue to smolder in the interior portions of the fire footprint even with the damp air.
Winds today will be mostly northwest, and smoke should be relatively light today. Illinois River Valley communities (Agness, Selma, and Cave Junction) should have some smoke impacts in the morning and afternoon. Communities in the Rogue River Valley should see mostly good air quality with potential for some smoke in the late afternoon and evening. Coastal communities should have good air quality most of the day.
Tomorrow smoke production should be similarly light. Winds will shift more to the southwest pushing smoke to the northeast. Merlin and Grants Pass may get more smoke tomorrow than today, while Selma and Cave Junction should get less smoke tomorrow than today.
