With shifting winds, smoke from the Klondike Fire is expected to impact areas east of the fire this afternoon. Light west winds will potentially push smoke into Grants Pass, Medford, Ashland, and surrounding communities this afternoon. Smoke is expected later this afternoon to possibly reach Unhealthy to Sensitive Groups to Unhealthy conditions.
The Klondike Fire remains active, both along the northern portion south of Agness and in the southern extent to the east of Pearsoll Peak.
Klondike: 112,307 acres and 46% contained
Taylor Creek: 52,839 acres and 95% contained
The Miles Fire and the Natchez Fire continue to produce smoke, primarily as unburned fuels ignite under dry and breezy conditions.
Overnight smoke has settled into valleys within the Rogue River-Siskiyou NF and areas south and west including the Brookings and Gold Beach areas. Light winds will steadily shift from northeast to south, and finally westerly by this evening. This will result in smoke from the Klondike Fire to impact all areas from the coastlines this morning to the Highway 199 and I5 corridor by this evening. Additionally, smoke from the Natchez Fire will be impacting the Provolt, Medford, and Ashland areas. Look for a near repeat on Thursday and Friday of this week with light westerly winds pushing smoke impacts each afternoon and evening east over the Highway 199 and I5 corridors.
