Ryan and Silver Creek Fire Crews Focus on Patrol and Repair
The Ryan and Silver Creek Fires have been managed by a National Incident Management Organization (NIMO) since September 29, 2018. NIMOs are not time-limited and can provide long-term management of incidents, which provides consistency for local communities. The Ryan and Silver Creek Fires are currently the priority incidents in the Rocky Mountain Region and the NIMO team is sharing resources between the fires as appropriate.
Ryan Fire Current Situation: Rain fell on the Ryan Fire again yesterday continuing a trend of minimal fire behavior. Fire crews spent part of the day building Buck and Rail to place around dozer lines to ensure no additional disturbance to the area takes place. Closures to Forest Service and BLM managed lands remain in place, but agency administrators are monitoring progress and closures will be lifted when conditions allow. Today, crews are expecting similar weather conditions and additional repair work will be done before engines begin patrolling the area this afternoon.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the fire was the result of an escaped campfire, but remains under investigation. Anyone with information that may assist in the fire investigation should call the fire information line at 307-314-9408.
The Ryan Fire, located 27 miles northwest of Walden, Colorado, started on September 15, 2018. There are 159 personnel assigned to the Ryan Fire. Fire acreage remains at 28,585 acres and remains 35 percent contained.
Silver Creek Fire Current Situation: Crews continued to remove equipment from the fire and conduct repair work where possible. The Silver Creek Fire continued to receive moisture making access to areas of the fire difficult. The remaining Silver Creek crews will continue to patrol the fire until it can be turned over to Forest Service. The Silver Creek Fire, located 16 miles northwest of Kremmling, Colorado was started by lightning on July 19, 2018. There are currently 94 personnel assigned to the Silver Creek Fire. The fire remains at 20,120 acres and is now 78 percent contained.
Fire Weather: Both fires will experience another round of scattered storms today with snow in the higher elevations. High temperatures are expected in the 40’s with south to southwest winds generally around 10 mph.
Closures and Public Safety: Area closures on National Forest System and Bureau of Land Management lands remain in place on both fires. Updated closure orders and maps are available for the Ryan Fire at (https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/6210/), and Silver Creek Fire at (https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/5985/).
