COMMUNITY MEETING: There will be a Hendrix Fire Community Meeting tonight at 7 pm. It will be held at the Hendrix Fire Incident Command Post (Fire Camp) located at the intersection of Highway 238 and Hamilton Road in Ruch, Oregon. This meeting will be followed by a short tour of the fire camp. It will also be streamed on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/HendrixFire2018/.
An approaching cold front will bring slightly drier and cooler air today. Maximum temperatures near the fire will be 76-82 degrees while valley temperatures will top out in the mid-90s. Relative humidity will range from 23-28%. Winds will be light in the morning and then become gusty in the afternoon. These winds should assist in clearing out some residual smoke and slightly improve air quality. This trend will continue through Saturday. Hotter temperatures are forecasted to return early next week.
Crews spent yesterday actively patrolling the fire’s perimeter. Work has begun to repair secondary dozer lines which are no longer needed for fire suppression. Berms created by dozers are being removed and steps to control erosion are being implemented. Firefighters continued to pull surplus equipment off the fireline, some of which is being reassigned to other fires in the area. A chipper is being used to grind vegetation that was piled along Forest Service roads during fire suppression activities. An excavator has been brought in to help dig out partially buried logs which are still smoldering underground.
