WHITE MOUNTAIN ZONE TYPE 3 INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM
Chris Johnson, Incident Commander
Chev Fire Final Update – July 12, 2018
Discovered: Monday, July 9, 2018
Location: 30 miles south of Winslow, Arizona
Percent contained: 80%
Size: 90 acres
Personnel Assigned: 151
Update: Wednesday fire crews continued to secure the perimeter of the fire. While smoke was still visible from active hotspots on the interior of the fire, crews “cold trailed” (inspecting and feeling for heat) the edge of the fire, and extinguish remaining hot spots to ensure no active fire remains near the boundary. Light rain fell over the area Wednesday afternoon and evening further mitigating the spread potential.
The Rabbit Fire, which had been managed along with the Chev Fire was declared 100% contained and is now in monitor and patrol status. The Bunny Fire has been pronounced out.
Today crews will focus on mop-up and patrol the fire perimeter in preparation of transitioning the fires back to the local district. Management of these fires is anticipated to return to the district Friday, July 13, 2018, morning at 7:00 a.m. This will be the final update released by the White Mountain Zone Type 3 Team.
Weather: Monsoonal activity is expected to continue through the week bringing a chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms daily. Highs are expected to be near 80 degrees into next week.
