Fire Activities: Yesterday, fire crews traversed the western edge of the Spring Creek Fire and continue to develop firebreaks in the Sterns Gulch Area. This location remains challenging due to its remote location, steep, rocky terrain and heavy fuel loads. As the day progressed and storms moved into the area, firefighters halted operation due to safety and weather concerns. Firefighters will return to the area today so they can expand and extend firelines.
The public will continue to see smoke an occasional flames within the fires interior. Firefighters will remain throughout the entire fire area monitoring hot spots and mopping up the fires edge. Work to repair and restore firelines remains a top priority along with public safety. Throughout the burn area, repair and rehabilitation operations are taking place. Drivers are reminded to please slow down, remain attentive, and use caution so crews can safely work. As residents begin to repopulate and start recovery, officials remind everyone to please use caution. Fire weakened trees pose a hazard and as rain begins to move into the area, flash floods and erosion are a concern. Anyone with questions about structures, utilities, or roadways, should contact the appropriate agency for guidance. Spring Creek Fire Management remains committed to public safety and is working with local officials and land managers to meet common goals and objectives.
Weather: Today will be partly to mostly cloudy with thunderstorms possible as the day progresses. Upper elevations will again see temperatures in the upper 60’s, while lower elevations will be in the upper 70’s.
