Firefighters continue to monitor fire activity on the West Valley Fire and the Forest has activated a Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team for post-fire rehabilitation.Current fire activity is minimal and it is not expected to have any significant change in fire containment percentage or an increase in acreage in the following weeks. Fire sits at 11,771 acres, 55% contained. As the fire continues to smolder and creep through steep terrain, rocks, and previous fire scars, firefighters will continue to monitor its progression to ensure the perimeter is contained. Smoke will be visible from the interior of the fire for weeks to come and there is no need to call 9-1-1.
A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team has been called to the West Valley Fire to prescribe and implement emergency treatments to minimize degradation to the natural and cultural resources of the area.
The BAER team is a resource forest managers rely on, usually before a fire is completely out, to access the needed rehabilitation of the land post-fire. The team’s main objective is to protect life, property, and critical natural and cultural resources. The BAER team is led by trained professionals in their respected fields that can rapidly evaluate the burned area and prescribe emergency stabilization treatments, both short and long term. Stage II Fire Restrictions remain in place. You can find additional details at: www.utahfireinfo.gov. Emergency area, road and trail closures remain in effect.
