North Fire Update - 10/11/17

Incident: North Fire Wildfire
Released: 10/11/2017

The North Fire increased in containment to 40 percent yesterday. Rain showers are expected throughout the day today measuring up to half an inch.
Yesterday: Firefighters constructed new fireline along the north end of the fire west toward North Fork and reinforced firelines along the east. Containment lines have been completed on the southeast side of the fire to the Smoke Hole Road. Firefighters worked to improve the safety along all control lines by removing snags and hazardous trees.

Although the rain today will aid firefighters in their efforts to suppress the fire, it will also hinder operations due to safety concerns. The steep slopes and rocky terrain become extremely slippery when wet. Firefighters will take advantage of the rainy weather and sharpen tools, replenish supplies, and finalize future plans.

Scattered showers will occur over the area throughout the day bringing up to one half inch of moisture. Humidity will remain high today and through the weekend. Drier weather is expected for next week.

There is a lot of fire equipment and personnel working in the area the public is urged to slow down and use caution when driving.
