Northern Region Post-Fire BAER Assessment Reports Released
The National Forests for the Northern Region recently received approval and funding for emergency stabilization measures on Forest Service System lands burned by the 2017 Montana and Northern Idaho wildfires. The emergency treatments and activities are designed to decreased possible impacts to downstream values-at-risk from the burned areas such as: human life and safety, property, critical natural resources and cultural resources.
NOTE: As BAER Assessment Teams’ emergency stabilization reports are finalized and funded, they are posted on the right side of the Northern Region Post-Fire BAER InciWeb page found under “Announcements” at https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/article/5627/42249/ . See “2500-8 BAER Report” for each of the 2017 Forest Service wildfires posted as PDF documents to the upper right of this announcement.
SPECIAL NOTE: Everyone near and downstream from the burned areas should remain alert and stay updated on weather conditions that may result in heavy rains over the burn scars. Flash flooding may occur quickly during heavy rain events. BAER actions are intended to reduce, but cannot eliminate risks. Current weather and emergency notifications can be found at the National Weather Service (www.weather.gov/mso/) website.
