Jones Fire - Size: 10,220 acres Containment: 80% Cause: Lightning

Kelsey Fire - Size: 441 acres Containment: 21% Cause: Lightning

Yesterday’s Activity - On the Jones Fire crews continued to mop up hotspots on the southeast corner of the fire. Chipping operations began on the completed containment lines on the south side of the fire. Fire suppression repair began on the western containment lines while on the eastern side of the fire. Felling operations continued to remove hazard trees along Forest Road 1830. On the Kelsey Fire, crews strengthened firelines along Bunchgrass Ridge and down the slopes working towards Kelsey Creek on west and south ends of the fire.

Today’s Operations - On the Jones Fire hand crews and engines will continue to patrol and mop-up hot spots, focusing on the southeastern corner, south of Forest Road 18. Chipping operations will continue on the south flank, hazard tree removal will progress on the east and fireline repair work will occur on the west side of the fire. On the Kelsey Fire, firefighters will continue to secure the fireline on the south and western edges of the fire. Helicopters will be available to support firefighters with bucket work, as needed.

Weather and Fire Behavior – It is expected to be 10 degrees warmer today with a minimum relative humidity lowering to 40-55 percent. As the high pressure strengthens through the day, a light offshore wind pattern will develop during the evening and become more pronounced on Wednesday.
