Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team Black
Shane Greer, Incident Commander

Fire Information Line: (970) 367-7519
Hours of Operation: 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Note: This will be the final update for the Deep Creek Fire from Rocky Mountain Team Black. At midnight on Thursday, September 14, command of the fire will transition back to local authorities. Information will continue to be posted on InciWeb ( and Routt County Office of Emergency Management’s Facebook page ( as conditions change.

Current Situation: The Deep Creek Fire is now 100 percent contained. The total acreage of the fire is 4,161. On Wednesday, crews patrolled the western portion of the fire perimeter to ensure that the area is contained. Although the fire is 100 percent contained, smoke may be visible at times as there are still pockets of fuels burning in the interior which pose no threat to the fire line. On Thursday, crews will continue to patrol the fire perimeter and will work on suppression repair. Suppression repair can mitigate the fire suppression activities and can help reduce soil erosion and other resource damage associated with digging fire line, using bulldozers, or driving off road.

Weather: On Thursday, there is a 40 percent chance of wetting rain from thunderstorms, with relative humidity ranging from 25 to 30 percent. Winds will be from the east-southeast at 8 to 10 miles per hour in the morning before turning to southwest winds by mid-morning at 15 to 20 miles per hour with gusts up to 20 miles per hour.

Safety: Routt County, and much of Colorado, continues to experience dry, hot weather that carries the risk for wildfire. There are simple tips to help protect your home against wildfires including removing dead vegetation from near the home, pruning and thinning vegetation around the home, and keeping propane tanks at a safe distance.
