Andy’s Hump Fire Fact Sheet
Date of Origin: August 30, 2017
Location: The Andy’s Hump Fire is burning on the Lochsa-Powell and Moose Creek Ranger Districts of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests, roughly five miles east of Lowell on the north and south sides of Coolwater Ridge.
Current Size: 1513 acres
Current Situation: With winds out of the west forecasted for this afternoon, the potential exists for increased fire activity. Safety of firefighting resources and the public remain paramount. There is a continued effort to build fire line around Lowell, as well as help residents make their properties more defensible.
The Eastern Area Incident Management Team, a Type 2 Incident Management Team, has taken over management of the Andy’s Hump Fire. They are also managing the Glover and Old Man fires. These three fires are included in the Coolwater Complex. Stage 1 Fire Restrictions remain in place. Percent Containment: 0%
Fire Management Strategy: The Forest’s objective is suppression of this fire, with firefighter and public safety as top priorities. Given the limited availability of firefighting resources, work is focused in the Lowell/Selway area.
Firefighting Resources: Nationally, fire resources are in high demand as fires throughout the western United States threaten many communities. A Type 2 Incident Management Team is currently working the fire.
Values at Risk: Coolwater Lookout, Fenn Ranger Station, Private Residences in the vicinity of Lowell, Idaho
Fuels and Terrain: The area of concern, Lowell, is heavily timbered. The fire is burning in timber and grass in steep, rugged terrain.
