Strychnine Fire- Area and Road Closures Rescinded

The forest area and road closures surrounding the Strychnine Fire have been lifted.

Stage 2 Fire Restrictions continue to be in effect for this portion of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest, prohibiting use of all fires, campfires or stove fires on National Forest System (NFS) lands. Smoking on public lands, operating motorized vehicles off designated roads, and the operation of chainsaws and other equipment powered by internal combustion engine between the hours of 1:00pm and 1:00am is prohibited. Despite the cooler temperatures, the conditions in the forests are still very dry. Use caution and adhere to all restrictions.
The fire is currently under investigation. The fire originated in the afternoon of Saturday, September 2nd off of the Palouse River Road and east of Laird Park.
