Summary:

Fire suppression repair continues today, with most of the work concentrated on the west side of the fire. This work includes road grading and repair, chipping, and fire line repair. The Oregon Department of Transportation is ramping up repair work on Historic Highway 30, addressing road slumps, small slides, and many trees that have burned and are prone to falling on the highway. A large amount of work needs to be completed before the highway is safe to open. There is no estimated timeline for reopening Highway 30 and lifting the area closure.

Rain showers will taper off today, giving way to warmer and dryer conditions in the fire area. Another cold front will arrive by Tuesday, bringing cooler weather and increased precipitation, which will persist into next week and possibly into next weekend.

The Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) Team has completed their work and produced a preliminary report that is being reviewed by US Forest Service managers. A final draft is anticipated to be released by late next week.

Search and rescue operations within the area closure can expose firefighters and emergency responders to hazard trees, rolling rocks, and unstable terrain. The public is asked to continue to respect the area closures and to call local land management offices for hiking and recreation alternatives. The area closure will remain in place for the foreseeable future due to those hazards. It will be lifted as soon as it is safe to do so. People who violate the closure area will be cited and fined.
