Stone Lake Fire

What: Wildland Fire

Detected: August 27, 2017, 2:00 p.m.

Cause: Lightning

Current Size: Aproximately 8 acres

Containment: 0%

Resources on Fire: 8 smoke jumpers, 8 local Wisdom/Wise River firefighters

Location: N 45˚41.865 W 113˚16.230

Approximately 15 miles southwest of Wise River, MT

The Stone Lake fire was detected at aproximately 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2017. This fire

Is located high on the ridge in Whitebark Pine with rock screes nearby on two sides.

Smokejumpers jumped on the fire and two loads of retardent were dropped along with several

buckets of water. Eight additional local Wisdom/Wise River firefighters were flown into the area.

Smokejumpers from the Ross and Grouse fires will also be moved to the Stone Lake fire along

with four additional smokejumpers.

Today’s operations are to continue accessing the fire and checking for any additional spotting.

Weather predictions are continued hot and dry. A small cold front will be passing through the

area with the possibility of lightening and gusty winds.

There are currently no closures but the public is cautioned to be careful in this area.
