Third pier fire community meeting - Porterville
Residents affected by the Pier Fire are encouraged to attend a third community meeting on Saturday, September 9, at the Porterville College Student Center located at 100 E. College Ave. in Porterville. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. Representatives from the Incident Management Team and other local authorities will provide updates.
The Pier Fire, which began on August 29 in the Sequoia National Forest, still poses a threat to the communities of Camp Nelson, Pierpoint Springs, Wishon, Mountain Aire (Rogers Camp), Doyle Springs, Alpine Village, Sequoia Crest, and Cedar Slope. These communities remain under mandatory evacuation, and no residents are being allowed back into the mandatory evacuated areas at this time.
The following roads remain closed: Highway 190 east of Springville is closed at Upper Rio Vista Road to eastbound traffic and Highway 190 north of Ponderosa is closed at Forest Road 21S50 to westbound traffic.
