The Tank Hollow Fire is now 54% contained. Fire growth has slowed down and the total acreage is now 9,159. Yesterday crews, engines and helicopters worked along the northeast edge to secure the containment lines built over the last few days. A small thunderstorm passed over and provided a short test of the north perimeter. No spot fires occurred which gave fire managers firm confidence in that section of the line. Minimal firing was accomplished on the southeast edge to make the connection between the Tie Fork Road and the main fire. This tactic was a critical step in connecting a confinement line along Tie Fork. The fire is not expected to move any further to the east.

Direct hand line will be constructed today along the southeast edge of the fire in Soberville Hollow. Black lines on the north and east sides will be patrolled for hotspots and as the weekend approaches, the pace of containment progress will increase. In the areas where containment has been completed, repair work is being planned.

Fire managers continue to assess road closures, and the 042 (Indian Creek) Road will be opened tomorrow morning. As weekend recreation traffic increases, team safety officers are requiring all fire vehicles to drive cautiously and they are asking the public to be careful on the roads leading to the fire.
