Possible Campground and Road Closures Entering Labor Day Weekend
The Tank Hollow Fire is currently 4,710 acres with 40% containment.
Yesterday, rain showers and cloud cover throughout the afternoon resulted in moderated fire behavior. The majority of fire activity was smoldering, concentrating in the heavy brush and downed timber on the forest floor.
On the southwest corner, fire activity has cooled and crews secured fire line from Sheep Creek Road just beyond Water Hollow. The most active part of the fire continues to move northeast in Soberville and Baker Canyons. Crews along with dozer support began fire line construction in Mine Hollow as a contingency plan to prevent potential spread east of Tie Fork.
Today, cooler temperatures and higher humidity will continue to moderate fire activity. However, much warmer and drier weather is expected starting Sunday. Crews will continue suppression in an effort to keep the fire south of FS Road #042, west of FS Road #043, and northwest of Mine Hollow. The plan will include hand-crews, dozers, and air resources to protect power transmission lines, homes and recreation areas.
Over the course of the weekend, visitors to the area should be very cautious of fire traffic on roads and fire activity. As the weather gets warmer and drier starting Sunday and Monday those camping in the area should be prepared for further road closures along Indian Creek and FS #043 or to evacuate in case of emergency area closures due to fire spread.
Teat Mountain access via Sheep Creek is open. Sheep Creek and Indian Creek Ridge roads also remain open to the public but be aware of fire vehicles operating in the vicinity. The following areas are still closed: the Junction of Sheep Creek road (Forest Service Road #051) and Indian Creek road (Forest Service road #042) know as Unicorn Ridge campground and dispersed camping area, including entire segments of Forest Service road #032, Forest Service road #761, Tie Fork road (Forest Service road #725) and Upper Tie Fork Single Track trail (Forest Service trail #023) located in Township 10 South, Range 6 East, Section 19, northeast quarter all within the Salt Lake Based Meridian.
