Firelines Hold Through Red Flag Conditions Yesterday, Gibralter Ridge and Caribou Fire Information Meeting at High School Auditorium in Eureka, 7:00 PM Today

Weather: A dry cold front passed through the fire area overnight. Winds today will be gusty at times out of the northeast with slightly lower temperatures. High pressure will rebuild over the next 2-3 days moderating wind intensity and direction.

Caribou Fire: Yesterday, A full evacuation order remains in place for the West Kootenia area. The number of structures lost to the fire are being verified by Lincoln County Sheriffs’ Department before being released to the public. Heavy equipment connected with fireline construction in Canada and extended fireline to Lake Koocanusa along the U.S./Canadian border. Night operations worked to contain a three acre spot fire last night.

Today, Lincoln County Sheriffs’ Department continue to contact property owners affected by the fire. Heavy equipment and firefighters are working to build fireline to the southeast of West Kootenia. Heavy equipment is working on the west and north sides of the fire to continue fireline construction, monitor and patrol for fire growth with northeast winds over the fire.

Caribou Evacuations: Full Evacuation Order is in effect for West Kootenai area north of Tooley Lake. A Pre-evacuation Warning is in effect for West Kootenai area south of Tooley Lake.

Caribou Fire Closures: A Closure order is in place for the Caribou Fire. Closure Orders and maps under the "Closures" tab on Inciweb.

Gibralter Ridge Fire: Yesterday, helicopter bucket work on the ridge north of Williams Creek slowed fire progression. Today crews will continue to mop-up, patrol and monitor the west, south and east sides of the fire.

Gibralter Ridge Evacuations: The Lincoln County Sheriff and the IMT evaluate the need for evacuations on a daily basis. A Pre-Evacuation Warning remains in effect for the Sherman Creek, Griffith Creek, Therriault Pass Road, Stevens Creek, Glen Lake and Sinclair Creek (south/east of West Road) areas.

Gibralter Ridge Closures: Grave Creek Road and the Ten Lakes Recreation area are closed above the Grave Creek/Foothills Road junction. Closure orders and maps under the "Closures" tab on Inciweb.

Resources Threatened for both fires: Private property, structures, historic resources, recreational resources, timber, terrestrial and aquatic habitats and fall hunting.

Fire Restrictions: Lincoln County and the Kootenai National Forest are in Stage II Fire Restrictions due to Extreme Fire Danger. For information on fire restrictions, please visit
